Lights Film School Online offers an in-depth filmmaking program that teaches up and coming fiction and documentary filmmakers the A-Z’s of the digital filmmaking process. You’ll learn everything from script analysis and cinematography to directing and sound design.

Our online film program takes an “outcomes based” approach to teaching and learning. Our priority is on helping you build a strong portfolio of written and video work in the genres or creative areas that interest you most. Every filmmaker has a unique set of goals and objectives which is why we’ve designed our course curriculum to be adaptable to your needs.

Our film school is not only in-depth, but it’s also interactive and personal, which means you’ll receive personalized feedback and support from our teachers. We take your progress as a filmmaker very seriously and will constantly push you to strive further.

You’ll also get opportunities to meet with other students by attending our monthly online LAB CHATS. These live lectures cover a wide range of topics from screenwriting and cinematography to film theory and directing. Our lab chat schedule is always changing, but last month we had 5 lab chats. They were:

1: The Art of Lighting: Where do I begin?
2. An Introduction to Western Dramatic Structure
3: Building Tension: A Close look at Munich
4: Introduction to Camera Movement
5: Re-writing

We enroll students with a vastly different interests in film. Some want to become feature film directors, documentary filmmakers, music video directors, writers or producers. Whatever your individual interest are, we can teach you how to make your projects as professional as possible. The only thing we require from you is that you are self motivated to complete our course. There is no “attendance” grade, so it’s important that you take your film education seriously and make our course a scheduled part of your weekly activities.

As you progress through our online modules (video & text tutorials), you’ll soon start to develop a series of scripts and short video projects to add to your resume and demo reel.

Our course consists of 6 different sections. They are:

5: Editing
6: Sound Design

Although I am newcomer to film studies, it's easy to recognize and respect the expertise of the instructors, who have been responsive to my questions as well as helpful and generous with their direction. The chatroom lecture format has been surprisingly easy to get used to and they have also helped to improve my work enormously (keep them coming!) . It seems to me the Lab Chats allow for more engagement between the instructor and other students than in a regular classroom.
