Steadying Your Shot With a Tripod

Using your tripod to take hand held footage

If it is required that you move with your hand held shot, using your grip on the side of the camera will prove to be very challenging and result in poor quality footage. Each step you take will cause the camera to rise and fall and the camera shake will become even more noticeable.

In order to capture footage with a moving subject and a hand held camera, attach your tripod to your camera (heavier tripods work great) and then hold the tripod (not the camera) and follow your subject around. This helps distribute the shake throughout your body and has minimal impact on the footage because the tripod acts as a balancing weight.
