It has been proven that the sample rate must be at least double the frequency that we hope to capture. Because humans can hear sounds up to 20,000 Hz we need to be able to sample at least 40,000 times a second (40 kHz). Different recording devices record at differ sample rates. If the audio device records at too low a sample rate it will result in “aliasing” with poor quality high frequency sounds. CDs have a sample rate of 44.1 kHz.
