. Filmmaking: Camera Movements 4 main types of camera movement There are 4 main types of camera movement. They are: 1. Pan shot 2. Tilt shot 3. Tracking shot 4. Hand held / Zoom The pan shot Panning is a camera movement technique that involves moving the camera horizontally to the right or left. With this technique you can track an object or follow any type of movement. Be very careful with jerky action though. You can do the pan shot hand held but we highly recommend using a tripod. Towards the end of this lecture, we’ve included a section on the prices of any equipment we recommend you use. We wouldn’t recommend it if 1) we thought it was ridiculously expensive or 2) if we didn’t feel the increase in production value would far outweigh the price of the hardware. The tripod “head” is the part that moves up and down and left to right. Some tripod heads are better than others. You’ll need to look for one which can be secured (for when you want to stop all movement) and have the capability to be loosened so you can move your camera around with as little shake as possible.
