Learn how to become
a documentary filmmaker
By default documentary
filmmaking is an education experience. Besides the obvious filmmaking education
component of it, there is also the educational element of whatever subject
you're shooting. For example, if you're shooting a political documentary you'll
learn a lot about your political topic. If you're shooting a nature documentary
you'll learn a lot about your nature subject.
Best of all, documentary
filmmaking is often much cheaper than regular filmmaking since you won't have to
worry as much about studio space, expensive actors or million dollar scripts. In
short, documentary filmmaking is great for anyone looking to get into the film
industry on the cheap.
The cost of creating a
documentary could be anywhere from free to millions of dollars. However, most
documentary filmmakers get their documentaries made for anywhere from $500 to
$10,000. This will include the cost of most travel, a little extra film
equipment, studio space, tours or tour guides, research and development and so
on.
