Using the eyes as
an edit point in film
Directors love close-up shots because they are relatively easy to fit into any
shot sequence and as we stated earlier, they give the audience access to the
actors eyes. The eyes play an important role in filmmaking because they provide
the editor with great "cutting points". As you'll learn in your upcoming lesson
on staging, continuity and editing, you'll need to shoot film and edit film
based on optimal "edit points". We go into much more detail on these "edit
points" in future lectures. For now just know that the eyes act as great "edit
points". This is why Hollywood is obsessed with various eye techniques such as
